Science is an intellectual, social, and cultural endeavor to explain the observable phenomenon of the universe around us.

The goals of Science Education in Poudre School District are:

  • Every student will be enabled to use appropriate scientific processes and principles in making personal decisions.
  • To promote the skills and understanding necessary for individuals to engage intelligently in public discourse and debate about matters of scientific and technological concern.
  • Every student will experience the richness and excitement of observing and understanding the natural world.

These goals define a scientifically literate individual.

The Essential Standards for science content define what a scientifically literate person should know, understand, and be able to do after 13 years of school science.

Science Education in Poudre School District will focus on students learning science through active engagement in standards-based inquiries which are interesting and important to them.

Students will acquire the skills and knowledge base for understanding science and the natural world. Teachers and students together will be members of a community focused on learning science while being nurtured by a supportive education system.
