Sixteen Poudre School District schools have been selected for the 2013 Governor’s Distinguished Improvement awards and/or the John Irwin Schools of Excellence awards. Five PSD schools were honored with both awards.
The Colorado Department of Education celebrated the 2013 district and school performance results in an awards ceremony recently at the Colorado Department of Education with Commissioner Robert Hammond honoring schools and districts. Each year the CDE recognizes schools that have shown high achievement.
Meet the four PSD students who joined an elite academic group after receiving a perfect score of 36 on the American College Testing exam.
Fossil Ridge High School senior Sanjukta Santra, Poudre High School senior Siyu Wu, and Rocky Mountain High School seniors Catherine Giesenhagen and Dennis Shi all received perfect composite scores when they took the standardized exam as juniors. Read about these students below!
After reviewing information from the Heat Committee, PSD Superintendent Dr. Sandra Smyser is recommending district actions to address heat issues in schools, as well as calendar modifications for elementary and middle school students that will be implemented as a pilot program at the start of the 2014-15 school year.

The Fossil Ridge High School Marching Band won their second consecutive class 5A state championship this fall. The marching band includes more than 200 Fossil students. Enjoy this video of the FRHS Marching Band 2013 state performance posted on You Tube.
Poudre School District was among 83 entities named a Gold Leader by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment at the 14th Annual Environmental Leadership Program awards event on October 17 in Denver. The Environmental Leadership Program is comprised of members that voluntarily go beyond environmental regulations and reach towards the goal of sustainability. PSD has been a Gold Leader since 2009, and was the first school district in the state to achieve this recognition.
Poudre School District has over 19,000 volunteers, consisting of parents, grandparents, seniors and community members. Helping PSD’s Volunteers & Partnerships office manage the multitude of volunteers at each school site is a Volunteer Building Coordinator.

Wearing “Museum Staff” T-shirts, third-graders at Olander Elementary Project-Based Learning School were the experts as they gave visitors tours through their museum about the northeast region of the United States.
The online School Choice application for the 2014-15 school year is now available online. The first-consideration deadlines for the 2014-15 school year are:
• January 31, 2014, for secondary (grades 6-12)
• February 14, 2014, for elementary (grades K-5)
If you miss the first consideration deadline, School Choice applications may also be submitted after the deadline until the first day of class at the beginning of the school year of requested enrollment.
