Irish Elementary students, grades pre-K through fifth-grade, and Irish staff members participated in mock presidential election on Nov. 6. The election was run by Irish's 5th graders, who spent the past month studying the concepts of citizenship, elections and voting. Also included on the mock ballot, was an "election" for "favorite color" and "favorite sport".
Boltz Middle School students spent a morning participating in several science demonstrations like vortex cannons, fun with dry ice, bubble magic and making edible slime.
Denver 7NEWS meteorologist Mike Nelson presented to the entire seventh-grade class at Lesher Middle School, an International Baccalaureate School. Students learned about the science behind the field of meteorology and how science is applied to create accurate weather forecasting. Nelson displayed examples of weather balloons and other equipment used to send instruments thousands of feet into the sky to study the jet stream and into storms like hurricanes. It was a great opportunity to learn about the practical application of math, science, and communication skills from a practicing scientist!
