Alternative Programs

PSD Online Academy

The PSD Online Academy provides a home-based alternative to traditional school for students in grades K-12. PSD OA offers students over 150 online courses, support by local teachers and staff, and is tuition-free. Using high-quality, rigorous digital content, students can take courses ranging from Credit Recovery to Advanced Placement (AP). Students have the option of enrolling in the 100% Home-Based track or the elective Hybrid Enrichment Program which meets weekly for face-to-face activities. Students also have the opportunity to participate in clubs, Student Council, and other extra-curricular activities.

Inspired by a range of needs, PSD Online Academy is well suited to:

  • students looking for a technology-rich alternative to traditional schools
  • students who learn best through self-paced instruction,
  • students who travel frequently or live in remote areas,
  • diploma-seeking students who are home schooled.

Centennial High School is a nationally recognized, exemplary alternative public school in Poudre School District.  We feature a learning environment based on self-empowerment. Each year many school officials from around the nation come to visit our school. The Centennial model of education is now in place in 150+ schools and eight states.

Goals
Centennial High School's goals are three-fold:

1.  Assist students in developing the life skills necessary to increase self-esteem and self-confidence and to achieve success in an educational setting.

2.  Provide an alternative educational setting in which students can complete their high school diploma programs.

3.  Help students develop the skills and attitudes needed to succeed in their home high schools.

Discovery Program
The Discovery program is a concrete, skill-based curriculum that has the power to create positive change in students. Students learn and master the positive social skills necessary to be successful in school and life. It works especially well for students considered at risk and has helped students from all walks of life.

The Discovery program at Centennial High School teaches positive social skills to students struggling with academic, attendance, and attitude problems. The curriculum includes sophisticated social skills, management strategies, cultural development, and experiential activities.

Three objectives of the Discovery program are to:

  • Develop a strong sense of community and a support system for students;
  • Teach, practice, and give feedback on specific positive social  skills; and
  • Reinforce the culture of the classroom.
