History
Olander Elementary opened in 1990 and was named for Emil and Eleanor Olander, two retired Fort Collins teachers.sdf

Learning culture
Olander's culture is founded on a love of learning and caring for children. Mutual respect, personal responsibility, safety, and “doing your best” are cornerstones of our school. Clear expectations and “love and logic” discipline create a positive, safe learning atmosphere.

Academic environment
Olander’s focus is establishing a strong foundation in literacy, math, civic responsibility, and the new 21st Century skills all students need to be successful. On January 27, 2009, Olander was officially designated as the first elementary school in Colorado focused on Project Based Learning (PBL). Through student-centered projects and individual inquiry, Olander students are equipped with a unique set of skills that excite them about learning while preparing them for future educational challenges. PBL also develops strong partnerships with our community and businesses. These partnerships help to create an authentic and meaningful learning environment by connecting what students are learning to the real world.

Instructional & enrichment programs
Olander nurtures the development of the whole child by integrating the arts and technology education throughout the curriculum. During projects, for example, students may be writing and directing their own performance, creating their own Web site, or speaking to an authentic audience about what they’ve learned.

Enrichment and leadership activities include gifted and talented services, student council, choir, Lego Robotics, running and mountain biking clubs, special assemblies, guest speakers, and field trips.

Opportunities for parents
Our PTO provides a number of activities including book fairs, student assemblies, annual sock hop, and other monthly social events. The School Improvement Team provides input and feedback on the operation of our school.
