Riffenburgh Elementary School opened in 1968 and was named for Waldo Riffenburgh, former member of the PSD Board of Education.
Riffenburgh is a neighborhood school of excellence focusing on the academic and social needs of children. We emphasize essential learning skills and help all kids to develop their individual talents and potential. We prepare students to be responsible for personal and shared resources through integration of current research on learning and wellness.
Our positive behavior support philosophy promotes respect, optimistic attitude, cooperation, kindness and self-control (ROCKS). School-wide character education and our counseling program provide students with social skills to make safe, responsible choices as members of the Riffenburgh community.
Riffenburgh offers half- and full-day kindergarten, BASE Camp, and a breakfast program.
Riffenburgh implements PSD’s standards-based curriculum. Progress is assessed in reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, art, music, technology, and P.E. Literacy Lab is available to eligible children and we offer special education resource, speech/language, O/T and social skills programs.
Instructional & enrichment programs
Enrichment activities include Odyssey of the Mind, Lego Robotics, active fieldwork and research through our National Science Foundation grant, the Rockin’ Roadrunner Choir, running club, accelerated reading, student council, character education, gifted education, Young Scholars, and Missoula Children’s Theatre.
Opportunities for parents
Parent opportunities are available through our PTO and volunteer program. The School Improvement Team meets monthly and provides input in the areas of school-wide goals, continuous improvement, and development of student programs.
